MERKUR UK’s Investment in Development

Samantha Hempshall: ‘MERKUR UK’s investment in development, both personal and professional, sends a powerful message’

Blueprint’s Operations Manager Samantha Hempshall, who was among the first wave of students to graduate from MERKUR UK’s ground-breaking Slots Academy, has praised the initiative for providing her with the foundation stones to build a successful and rewarding career.

One of 14 team members identified as having the potential to be a future leader Samantha believes that the Academy has helped hone and develop industry relevant skill-sets which will deliver benefits to Blueprint’s growing customer base. Asked to identify tangible advances gained as a result of participating in the comprehensive 45-week course she said: “Overall I would say that  I’ve become much more confident when presenting, particularly to senior leadership, but more than that, I also feel empowered to raise ideas, voice considerations, and constructively challenge decisions at that level. The course helped me develop not just what I communicate, but how I approach those conversations, making sure my input is clear, considered, and contributes to better outcomes.”

She continued: “The course also provided a valuable opportunity for deep reflection particularly in relation to my approach to decision-making and leadership. One key learning was the importance of pausing and reflecting before acting, especially when faced with complex choices. I’ve become more intentional in looking beyond surface-level assumptions to understand the root causes behind data or challenges.

“Equally important was learning to listen more and talk less. That simple shift has helped me engage more meaningfully with my team and peers. The insights gained have already influenced how I approach problem-solving and leadership in my day-to-day role.”

Completed over three stages running March to May 2024, September to November 2024 and completing March to May 2025, each phase comprised six face-to-face team workshops, three virtual modules and a personal development coaching session. Far from being a cursory tick box exercise the course required participants to go ‘all in’ which meant giving a lot of themselves. “The course asked us to truly reflect on ourselves, our habits, assumptions, and leadership styles” she confirmed. “That level of self-reflection and personal challenge wasn’t always easy, but it was necessary for growth. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone, and I’m grateful for that.”

With students drawn from across the family of MERKUR UK brands the connections made have helped to foster a partnership-based approach. “The course has certainly opened the door to greater inter-company engagement” she confirmed. “I’ve experienced enhanced collaboration, particularly in projects such as the Blueprint/Regal launch of Gladiator Riches which was the first true Omni-Channel game.”

“I believe that MERKUR UK’s investment in development, both personal and professional, sends a powerful message. It shows that the company values its people and is willing to support long-term growth. For anyone planning their career, knowing that you’re in an environment that nurtures learning, reflection, and progression is incredibly important.”
